Hi all,
This year, in celebration of Dynamic Range Day on March 22nd - http://dynamicrangeday.co.uk/ - I am running a competition to win a free mastering session. I will master your EP (up to four tracks) for free. If you have more than four tracks they can be deducted off the total bill.
The only catch is that you must agree that we will make no concessions to loudness in the master - optimum sound quality will be the only criteria that applies.
To enter, just send an email to tdwoodhead AT gmail DOT COM with the heading “DRD Competition” with a link to one of your tracks in .wav or high res mp3 format (please, no email attachments) and a paragraph explaining why you think the prize should be yours.
If you don’t know what I’m rabbiting on about and are wondering what all this Dynamic Range Day business is then please check out the videos below. The second in particular is, for me, a powerful demonstration of why louder is definitely not better.

Hi all,
I have slightly updated my “What Is Mastering?” article, primarily to clarify things in the section on equipment. I plan to update this document periodically to hopefully have it even more useful as time goes on. If anyone has any suggestions for things to add (or remove, I guess!) from the article then feel free to get in touch.
There are no hyperlinks in the article yet. Coming soon, promise!

Hi all,
I updated the discography to include some of the awesome artists I have been working with during a very busy last few months, including Young Legionnaire Johnny Foreigner, Joseph and David and Sisterland.
I’m still hoping to get this site looking a bit spiffier in the near future (probably over Christmas). Watch this space -

Exciting, right?

So, the new studio is (kind of) up and running now. There are a lot of things, both cosmetic and functional, that need improving and finishing, but yesterday I was able to christen the new space with sessions for Wot Gorilla and TEN. Two very contrasting bands, both stylistically and sonically, but equally enjoyable to work on.
Those pictures I promised are coming soon, I er, promise! If you enjoy looking at pictures of rockwool still in it’s packing you are in for a massive treat. In fact, I am planning on ordering even more!
Yours truly,
Insular Hippo
The studio has undergone a traumatic move over the past month or so; from its old home in Burley to a new, shiny Armley location. Big, strong men were in smashing walls apart last week and painting and arranging of monitors/acoustic treatment is to come. I will post photos when I get back from this smelly apartment in Holland (don’t ask).

Hi all,
After much procrastination, the Hippocratic Mastering website has most of the sections it needs. Still to come are a more detailed discography and audio examples, as well as cleaning up the place a bit. If you can think of anything you think the site needs please feel free to give me a shout.
